The fallout for many children who witness or are directly involved in family conflicts is emotional trauma that can affect their development and future relationships.
Effect on Children
This can place a strain on social services, such as child protective services, counseling, and legal aid.
Impact on Social Services
-
Many families face a shortage of financial resources that limits their ability to resolve conflict due to a lack of options for effective resolution.
-
Persistent, unresolved conflict can lead to emotional distress, strained relationships, and in some cases family estrangement.
-
Constant exposure to conflict during childhood can result in adverse physical and mental health outcomes, which can persist throughout a person's life.
-
Family conflicts contribute significantly to mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), affecting not just the individuals involved but also their extended families.
Challenges Faced by Families
Our Commitment
Whole Family Mediation (WFM) is committed to addressing these issues through our pro-bono or low-cost mediation services and training programs.
In 2022, Whole Family Mediation launched the 'Less Stress More Peace Workshop,' at Gary High School in Pomona.
The workshop is a communication skills class thoughtfully designed for individuals aged 11 to 99. Participants acquire valuable conflict resolution skills applicable in school, the workplace, and within their families and future relationships.
Less Stress More Peace Workshop
Our mediation services focus on stabilizing placement of children into foster families, as well as proactively mediate issues that might prevent placement. We guide families in solving immediate problems, arriving at fair resolutions, , and holding one another accountable. These services are offered to individuals, families, and small groups on an on-going basis, depending on the conflict and need.
Foster Care Family Mediation Services
Using transformational mediation, our experienced mediators guide families through a powerful process that enables them to forge lasting agreements, establish mutually acknowledged boundaries, and live together with their family unit intact. We understand the importance of preserving the bonds that matter most.
Courageous Conversations
Our Programs
While we serve families and individuals in all states of life and need, we focus on the most vulnerable populations within our communities, including low and moderate-income senior citizens, women, and children impacted by the juvenile justice system, mass incarceration, homelessness, and poverty. We aim to serve these populations and their families to find stability and sustainability in their lives and relationships.
Who we Serve
What We Do
By addressing family conflicts early and offering a supportive environment for resolution, Whole Family Mediation seeks to mitigate the negative consequences of family disputes and foster healthier, happier families and communities. We believe that our approach can significantly contribute to the well-being and stability of families while reducing the burden on social services and the legal system.
